Dmitriy Yavornytsky in the Grotto of Multicultural Yekaterinoslav: toponymic project of 1906 as a personal-world-view and cultural-symbolic presentation

Abstract

The first and only project of the complex reform of the city toponymy Yekaterinoslav, the author of which was D.I. Yavornytsky, was analyzed in the article for the first time in historiography, and the attempt to implement it in the inter-revolutionary period of the early twentieth century. The author defined content, cultural and ideological aspects of the project, found out the reasons for the lack of implementation of this initiative in the context of the existence of certain cultural contradictions between ideological and cultural imperatives of D.I. Yavornytsky and the mechanisms of the formation and functioning of the urban environment of Yekaterinoslav of the modern age.
